Los Angeles-based Director of Photography Thomas Hencz founded Tstop in 2004. His vision was to focus on filmmakers and cinematographers who shared his passion for what the very best lenses and cameras could do for storytelling, and who appreciated the service and support that go above and beyond the norm. In essence, to create exactly the place he would want supporting his own work as a cinematographer, and then to share that resource with his peers. That clear purpose lead to Boyan Stanivucović and Tyler Hawes - two other filmmakers - joining him as partners in Tstop.
From the outset, Tstop committed to having world-class cinema glass, and we launched with the best from the likes of Cooke, Zeiss and Angenieux. It was an exciting new time in cinematography, as the switch to digital cameras was at its beginning. So we were early adopters of the then-new RED cameras, owning serial number 17 of the RED ONE. With the arrival of the ARRI ALEXA, things really got off to the races in digital cinema, and Tstop quickly grew in our selection of cameras and lenses. We also began offering supporting equipment, such as becoming the place for Easyrigs in Los Angeles.
Our History
Filmmakers quickly discovered our little shop, where they found a depth of knowledge and resources along with a willing and enthusiastic spirit. We also had the best coffee in the Hollywood Media District — especially considering its gratis nature — and were always game for a chat.
Tstop continues to expand and broaden our services consistent to the original vision - be the house we want to work out of ourselves. That lead to new services like production data hosting, LTO backups, and digital dailies — not to mention adding a second location in Atlanta.
