ARRI Alexa 35 Now Available from Tstop

Our first two ARRI ALEXA 35 camera packages have arrived in Atlanta and are ready for production rental. Tstop has a deep inventory of Super 35 lenses for use with ALEXA 35 — including Cooke S4/i, Cooke Anamorphic, Angenieux Optimo, ARRI Ultra Prime, ZEISS Super Speed, and other vintage and uncoated glass. Our on-site DI suite will be invaluable for testing and evaluating the new possibilities of ARRI Textures.

ALEXA 35 offers compelling new capabilities that invite innovation in the way you shoot. Perhaps most notable is the impressive 17-stops of dynamic range, which allows capturing extreme highlights. This is useful for recovering highlight detail in post-production, but also for better highlight rendition in HDR viewing. ALEXA’s color science was already best-of-class, but they have refined it even further with the ALEXA 35 to render colors and skin tones even better.

Another intriguing new feature is ARRI Textures, whereby the DP can choose from subtly different textures of “grain” (noise, really, but in good taste) and contrast/sharpness profiles — akin to choosing a digital “film stock”. These choices are part of how the RAW image from the sensor gets committed to data, so your creative choice of texture is baked-in to the image and won’t get lost in post-production. We applaud ARRI for finding an avenue for cinematographers to have more creative control - something that has ben eroding since the transition to digital.

Tstop is an ideal partner to test and evalate the ALEXA 35, as we have our DI Look Suite adjacent to the camera prep bays. We can apply LUTs and color corrections using Davinci Resolve and then export the results to files you can share with other stakeholders and keep as a reference. These resources are available in support of any of our camera rentals, but they are especially relevant with the advent of ALEXA 35.
